The Surprising Lesson from 4 Weeks of Marathon Training

What’s your why?

Last year, a couple of friends and I decided to run the 2023 NYC Marathon. The race is scheduled for November 5th. We’re a colorful bunch of amateur runners: most of us were already running previously, two friends have run a couple of marathons, and another friend has run 30K weekly for ages. One of us had never run before.

How it started

As for me, I’ve been running inconsistently since 2016. Long story short, I started running because I wanted to be healthy and lose weight.

After my first race, I didn’t set any goals. My physical activity was a combination of running, mountain biking, e-biking, and weight lifting, the latter one being my favorite. I set a (soft) goal of benching 100kg, but I still haven’t reached it.

Why?

Simple: I wasn’t consistent. I gave up after a couple of weeks, each time. Life happened, and motivation diminished. A couple of days without training went by and I was back to the start.

Proof of inconsistency
