How I gained 2kg during the most active week of the year
We’re renovating our house, and one of the projects in this renovation is to renew the floor. There are various reasons why I chose to dismantle the existing floor myself — the main one undoubtedly being economic — but the best reason is definitely to take my mind off of business.
So I took the week off and started on Sunday using only three tools: a jackhammer, a shovel and a wheelbarrow. There was roughly 100m² to demolish and move the debris into the dumpster.
In the last two weeks, I was on a roll eating just one meal a day. But already by Monday, I felt that one meal wasn’t going to do it. After two hours of intense labour, I felt light-headed, empty and weak. I needed food.
So I switched back to a standard meal plan for this week: start the day with a solid breakfast; drudged three hours, and ate an extensive lunch. Grind another three to four hours, came home intensely hungry, so took another big meal in the evening.
No worries, many people would say: you’ll burn it off!
Yesterday, I put the last barrow in the dumpster. This morning, on my weekly weigh-in, the scale showed: 92kg. That’s +2kg (~4.4lbs).
So how did I put on this weight?
